3/8/2023 0 Comments Taipan veteranWhen the hammer is cocked and there is already a pellet in the chamber, pulling the cocking lever back again will obviously not cycle the magazine. I really love how the Taipan Veteran implemented the anti double feed system. I then have to decock the TX200 and store it with a pellet in the chamber. There have been multiple times where I had my gun loaded and cocked ready to fire only to miss the opportunity. The main reasons I even started considering a PCP apart from being recoilless are faster follow up shots if needed and being able to easily engage and disengage the safety. The looks has really grown on me as well. It just feels much lighter than it actually is when shouldered. The Veteran is much shorter than the TX200 and although it only weighs about 1 lbs less than the Air Arms gun, the distribution of weight allows me to hold steadily freehand. Although at first glance, I didn't really like how bullpups look and I just preferred the look of more traditional rifles, I couldn't ignore the practicality of bullpups. This is the main reason I started looking at bullpups. Even standing straight up, I have a hard time holding the TX200 steady freehand. Although I shoot on a tripod most of the time where weight and length does not really matter, I've found myself a few times having to shoot freehand and at awkward angles. I've never really liked the long length of the TX200. I didn't think this will be such a big deal when I saw all the discussions of PCP's vs springers (and to some people, springers being finicky adds to their nostalgia and appeal) but honestly, when shooting at live animals, I just want to get on with it. Although I can shoot the TX200 quite accurately at the distances that I'm shooting at, I find that I'm concentrating way too much on how I'm holding the gun for each shot. Shooting the TX200 for some months now really gave me a good idea of how I'm actually using a pellet gun and therefore what to look for when I bought this PCP. This is my second airgun but it is my first PCP. I'm using this gun mainly for backyard pesting within 40 meters. I turned down the hammer spring tension knob 2 full turns to get the Hades to shoot at around 920 fps. Out of the box, it came tuned really hot shooting JSB 18.13gr at 1003 fps according to a ticket of 15 shot string that came with the gun. ![]() ![]() So far, I've only had the chance to zero it and set it up for JSB Hades.
